Install Dreamweaver CS4 in Ubuntu/debian

Build world-class websites and applications with one of the industry’s leading web authoring tools. Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 software is ideal for web designers, web developers, and visual designers. Manipulate pixel-level designs in Design view, or craft complex code in Code view while working in the real browser environment of Live View. There is no linux version for Dreamweaver, but   there are many open source alternative for this  product like Kompozer, bluefish ….

Now  we  will  try  to  run it   under  Linux (ubuntu or  debian)

 

you   should   have  installed  CS4 under  windows  because  we  need  this  directory  to  complete  the  installtion

now  we  need  to download  some  packages to  help  us . :

1- Install wine

$sudo apt-get install wine winecfg

now  we  begin to  copy  folder from windows  to  ubuntu .

2-navigate to C:Program Files. Copy the whole ‘Adobe‘ folder to Ubuntu /home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files folder.

3- copy  C:Documents and Settingsyour-windows-user-nameApplication Data  to /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/All Users/Application Data/

4-copy C:Program FilesCommon Files  to /home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files

5- copy  C:WINDOWSsystem32  to /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32

6-copy   Winsxs  from   C:windows    to /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/  (this folder is  verry  important)

7-  import   the  registery to  wine

from windows  for  to   start and  Run (regedit)

go  to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> SOFTWARE->Adobe->Dreamweaver  ; Right click on the ‘Dreamweaver‘ folder and select ‘Export’. Save the file as dreamweaver.reg and  copy  this  file  to  ubuntu  home  directory  and  you  need  to  coinvet the  registery  file   to   ASII  file   (recode)

$sudo   apt-get  install  recode

recode is  :   (Conversion between character sets and surfaces)

$recode ucs-2..ascii dreamweaver.reg
$wine regedit dreamweaver.reg


Now you have successfully copied  all  needed files  to  run   your  installation succefully.

lets  give  a  test :

$cd /home/username
$cd .wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Dreamweaver CS4/
 $wine Dreamweaver.exe


Should  be  lunching   the  programe  now.

N.B : Unixmen Team advise you to use opensource products, so try first the open source dreamweaver alternatives

    Some should write an auto installer for all of this!

    The only thing one needs to do is to make sure their Windows partition has Dreamweaver installed on it.

    I’m not a techy guru and can’t wait for Linux to install things with ease like on windows or mac.

    Actually, Adobe should port dreamweaver over to Linux!!

    But I know they have their precious little heads wrapped up in all the red-tape bullshit. :roll:

    We did test it on Ubuntu jaunty and is working perfectly.

      I try, but give me the message:

      ”recode: dreamweaver.reg failed: Untranslatable input in step `ISO-10646-UCS-2..ANSI_X3.4-1968′”

    just ignored it and imported the registry entries without the conversion.

    I have been looking at saving $$ in order to purchase an academic version of Adobe CS4 Master Collection and to purchase an Intel based Macbook Pro computer.
    Found this article, and became quite curious. Can the rest of the CS4 Suite be installed and run under Wine or Crossover for Linux? If so, can someone point me to install directions and user feedback?

    hi… im trying to install dreamweaver cs4 in wine…

    when trying:
    sudo apt-get install wine winecfg
    i get the error:
    E: Couldn’t find package winecfg

    i ignored this and installed wine v 1.0.17 as per: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14343

    step2 was ok…

    for step 3,
    there was no directory /profiles/All Users/Application Data/ under /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/

    so i created one…

    step4 seemed ok…

    for step5
    there was already the system32 directory and some of the files already existed… i didnt overwrite those files…

    for step6
    there was already tha directory /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs
    although the case is different which matters on a unix system…
    not sure what to do here so i have both winsxs and Winsxs

    i exported the dreamweaver registry entry ok…

    $sudo apt-get install recode
    seemed to run ok…

    $recode ucs-2..ascii dreamweaver.reg
    seemed to run ok…

    but,

    $wine regedit dreamweaver.reg

    came with the error:

    err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out

    can anybody help me with this?

    Nice article, all was fine until I reached the $wine regedit dreamweaver.reg command.
    This gave the following error: err:process:create_process starting 64-bit process L"C:\windows\system32\services.exe" not supported on this environment
    err:wineboot:start_services_process Couldn’t start services.exe: error 193.
    My system HP hdx18
    Win7 Ultimate (64bit)
    Ubuntu 11.04 (64bit)
    Adobe CS4 is 32bit

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated

add friends only with wisdom. if you friend some policeman, it will be problematic like in real life.

best is to add only people you trust in real life or trust from other communitys too. and not to add random unkown strangers.
