Add Equalizer for Pulse audio in ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and Lucid lynx

Written by M. Zinoune on . Posted in Linux tutorials

This is an equalizer for pulse audio that you can install on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and Lucid lynx from ppa repository, when is installed you can access to it from Menu Sounds & Video.

Open terminal and copy the respository :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:psyke83/ppa

Now refresh using the command :

sudo apt-get update

Install Pulseadio equalizer :

sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer

Update :The Pulse audio equalizer in the ppa above seem to not work.

 Instead you can download the .deb packages bellow :

Download PulseAudio System-Wide Equalizer for Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (.deb) – for both 32bit and 64bit

Thanks to andrew from webupd8, he uploaded the wide equalizer for Ubuntu 10.10 to webupd8 ppa, this mean you can install it also from ppa by using the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer

      try executing pulseaudio-equalizer-gtk in console and read the error-message – in my case, as i use kde, just the iconset was missing.

  • Majkl

    Mint plays rather nicely compared to the default Win settings but I was missing the array of SoundMax options. This worked for me on first copypaste.

    Hey! Thanks… Really work for me…

    I cant stand PulseAudio. Nothing but problems….Maybe its not PulseAudio per se, but the sheer laziness in regard to how it was so poorly implemented in Ubuntu.

      I get the same error-message while doing an update. Have you removed the support for ubunut 10.10?

  • Anonymous

    Equalizer kinda works, but it distorts audio straight away when adding a bit more bass. its not really enhancing.

    Exactly the same problem for me. :(

    Reading package lists… Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information… Done
    E: Unable to locate package pulseaudio-equalizer
    :?:

    • Craig

      Same here. What, if any, is the solution?

      • sa1nt

        :-)..got the same message.
        Instead of executing
        sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer

        Try executing one by one. worked for me
        sudo apt-get update
        and then execute,
        sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer

        regards

    I updated the post, try the new ppa or you can use the .deb packages to install in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat.

    Is it possible to build this EQ in Rhythmox?

  • MiB

    No, Majkee, I don`t think so, it is a standalone app with all-pc effect.
Is it possible to build this EQ in Rhythmox?
Hi I get this error on Ubuntu 10.04.03 64bit in a live session:
    E: Paket pulseaudio-equalizer konnte nicht gefunden werden
    Means the packet "pulseaudio-equalizer" could not be found.
    Can anybody help me?

    I am using Linux Mint 11 64bit, which should be fully compatible with Ubuntu10 and I do have the Pulseaudio equalizer installed (found a .deb file somewhere). I can get you a cpy if you promis to publish it in apropriate places for the community. ;o)

  • MiB

    enter your message here…
It is just the wrong repository.
    Try ppa:psyke83/ppa and it works.
As a matter of fact, it hasn`t worked for me, actually.

    • Jan Girke

      Really?
      Have you refreshed Synaptic?
      as root user (become admin "sudo su")
      add-apt-repository ppa:psyke83/ppa
      apt-get update && apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer
      Then get into synaptic and refresh
      and install the pulseaudio-equalizer.
      I just don’t know how to refresh the repos from
      command line.

      • Jan Girke

        I think now I got it!
        I was just not seeing what is right in front of my eyes.
        "apt-get update" updates/refreshs the repos
        :D
        just use every line below:

        sudo su
        add-apt-repository ppa:psyke83/ppa
        add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
        apt-get update && apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer

  • Craig

    Nope, got the key then failed after update. So much grief just to get an equalizer.

Do you think that it works on a Macbook Air 1,1?… ohh and, it must be installed in a different partition than Mac OS X, right?… can´t have i installed only Ubuntu on my hard drive?

I wonder if there is a way to create your own themes.
