How to install Komodo Edit 9 on Ubuntu 15.04/14.04

Installing Komodo Edit

Lets get started on its installation process, good news is that it is now added to PPA for ubuntu based system, simply include the PPA for komodo Edit 9 to your package manager by running the following command on terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:mystic-mirage/komodo-edit

add komodo ppa
As soon as any new PPA is added to Ubuntu package manager repository, we need to run an update on it so it may populate its repository with new packages. Run following command to populate APT with komodo Edit packages.

sudo apt-get update

We are close now, run following command to install Komodo Edit 9.

sudo apt-get install komodo-edit

install komodo

Congratulations, Komodo Edit 9 has been installed successfully now.

Launching Komodo Edit

You can launch it from Applications menu, but if you are not able to locate it there after the installation, no need to panic, run following command on the terminal to find out the location of its binary file.

whereis komodo-edit

Once you find location of the binary file, which is usually “/usr/bin/komod-edit” , simply run it on terminal to launch this feature rich text editor.

/usr/bin/komodo-edit

Komodo will be launched,  choose your desired option from welcome screen and start using awesome text editor.
