with Ksplice no reboot is needed

Ksplice is a free and open source extension of the Linux kernel which allows system administrators to apply security patches to a running kernel without having to reboot the operating system. Ksplice has been implemented for Linux on the x86-32 and x86-64 architectures.

automatic installation is Free for ubuntu “download :


and install it with dpkg -i or just with packges manager

subscribe your email in to get a free key


create and add to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ksplice.list

vi /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ksplice.list

and add these 2 lines

deb http://www.ksplice.com/apt jaunty ksplice
deb-src http://www.ksplice.com/apt jaunty ksplice

then save and exite

Now under root :

wget -N https://www.ksplice.com/apt/ksplice-archive.asc
apt-key add ksplice-archive.asc
aptitude update
aptitude install uptrack

now you will be prompted to insert the key received in your email

finally install the GUI manager ( Graphical manager) with :

aptitude install uptrack-manager

you can enable the autoupdate in /etc/uptrack/uptrack.conf

anc change to

vi etc/uptrack/uptrack.conf

and change autoinstall to yes autoinstall = yes

{loadposition user1}
