What is Open Source Observatory and Repository for European public administrations ?

The IDABC Open Source Observatory has now become OSOR.EU – the Open Source Observatory and Repository for European public administrations

The Open Source Observatory (OSO), which has been serving the European Open Source Community for the past years, now forms part of a bigger package of services that the IDABC is offering to this community. A new generation portal with broader scope and enhanced features has been launched. The Open Source Observatory and Repository for European public administrations (OSOR.EU – http://www.osor.eu), is replacing the original OSO.

The new OSOR.EU has been designed as a platform not only for the exchange of OSS related information and experiences but also of FLOSS-based code, mainly targeting public administrations.

The OSOR.EU platform contains all the traditional free resources on the IDABC Open Source Observatory, such as international news and events relating to Open Source. In addition, it also provides new valuable services, including:

  • A new repository with software codes and documentation for public administrations;
  • A federated search facility – with a single search, visitors can now browse through hundreds of OSS projects hosted on a number of national forges;
  • Unique opportunities to contribute and work together through the state-of-the art forge, as well as the set-up of community projects.

OSOR.EU admits all free, libre and open source software, which was funded by public administrations, that is distributed under licenses that are recognised by the Free Software Foundation (FSF) or the Open Source Initiative (OSI) and code that is released under the European Union Public License (EUPL).
