Written by Mel Kham on . Posted in Linux tutorials

This is a Quick Tip for the people that want to activate  the “windows” button (Button between Ctrl and Alt) on your keyboard to be able to open the ubuntu Menu from keyboard :

Copy the command bellow in your Terminal :

gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/panel_main_menu --type string "Super_L"

That`s all. Quick and simple :)

hey, how do you go about undoing this feature? It seems to have broken my Win+ combinations, even though they are still set in th Keyboard Shortcuts panel. Alternatively, do you know of a way to enable both so one option doesn’t override the other?

    thanks,
    joel

i had the same problem. it removed my other keys. To uninstall, go to system/preferences/keyboard shortcuts and scroll down to the panel main menu entry, and set back to alt+ F1.
I take it you are a visitor from the windows world too? So far doing good on this side of the world. how about you?
