Peppermint OS Ice- A lightweight, user-friendly distribution with built-in cloud technologies
Peppermint OS Ice is a lightweight, user-friendly linux distribution with built-in cloud technologies. It is ideal for notebooks and old computers. The default desktop environment for
Peppermint is LXDE, Chromium is the default web browser, cloud applications like Editor by Pixlr [Image Editor], Facebook, Hulu, Last.FM, Pandora, Seesmic Web, The Cloud Player, YouTube, eBuddy, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Mail, Google Reader come also by default.
What is Ice?
“Ice is, by definition, a Site Specific Browser [SSB] that Peppermint creator Kendall Weaver wrote himself as a means to launch Web Applications and/or Cloud Applications [SaaS - Software As A Service, PaaS - Platform as a Service] from the new Peppermint Ice OS. When you launch a web based application using Ice it will call up a custom SSB using the defaultChromium Browser. So, essentially, the Ice SSB acts as software that is installed locally but is actually delivered via the Web.
The difference in using an SSB as opposed to using a tabbed browser is that only one function is assigned to the Ice SSB. In a tabbed browsing system, with several open for example, if one service or site in any given tab crashes you run the risk of losing data by crashing the other tabs and potentially the browser itself. since an SSB is isolated and dedicated to only operating the web application of your choice, if it crashes or hangs, it does not effect the rest of the system. And, because the Ice SSB’s are so sleek, they are perfect for running apps that display better using the most screen area as possible.”

The latest release is Peppermint-Ice-10012010, it is the first respin of Peppermint “Ice” release. This new release “offers a fully updated system as of October 1st, 2010 and comes with a number of bug fixes, some new features, and some other miscellaneous goodies. The default Linux kernel has been updated to version 2.6.35. In an effort to continually try to offer the best possible hardware support, we felt this was a good move for the Ice release. A number of lower-level updates, such as Grep 2.7.0, Samba 3.5.5, File 5.04, FreeType 2.4.2 and others have been implemented in order to offer a more up-to-date system while remaining on the Ubuntu LTS code base.” Read the complete release announcement for further information.
System Requirements:
- i386 or derivative processor (AMD64 and x86_64 are fine as well)
- 192 MB of RAM
- 4 GB hard drive space (this is an overestimate just for good measure)

it can be used to talk or chat through the internet,
it is using strong encryption.
but for example TOR is using some obfuscation because some countrys try to block all outgoing connections which can not be scanned with DPI
And the TOR Project is facing an arms race in obfuscation and encryption detection.

both peers must friend each other.
i suggest to not enter a valid e-mail address. it is not necessary, but pgp needs a mail addy. something@something.so fits perfectly… :)

If you want to make friends, please use the Chatservers.
#1 https://www.f2f-fr.net/w2c/en/
#2 http://retrosharechatserver.no-ip.org/w2c/en/
if you enter your certificate, the chatserver adds you as his friend and shows his certificate too add him to your friends.
After the connection to the chatservers is established, you can join a few chatrooms where the chatserver is lurking.
in this rooms are other people too help you and make first friends and get into the network.
add friends only with wisdom. if you friend some policeman, it will be problematic like in real life.
best is to add only people you trust in real life or trust from other communitys too. and not to add random unkown strangers.
If you have questions, ask them in the chatlobbys, there is always someone to answer them.
please read http://redd.it/18vsq5
