How to install Webmin in Debian Squeeze

webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix/. Using any modern web browser, you can setup user accounts, Apache, DNS, file sharing and much more. Webmin removes the need to manually edit Unix configuration files like /etc/passwd, and lets you manage a system from the console or remotely you can also create backups for the system and restore.

The installation is simple, you have just to download the Debian package from the webmin page (actual package is 1.530) and install it via the command:

dpkg -i webmin_1.530_all.deb

After the package is installed, open your browser and enter https://ip:10000 (port 10000 with ssl certification) then login with your root acces .

Not working for me – had to do the following…

If U have LAN-router, don’t forget to map port forvarding from external(if present) ip:port to internal ip:port. Webmin def.port is 10000

To me is not working:

I get the following:

Is there any conf file to be modified/adjusted/configure ?

  sounds like a general ‘i cant connect’ error from your browser.
  
  try the local ip of the machine your trying to connect to (if you are on the same local network) or make sure port 10000 is open in the firewall.

You’ll probably need to run:

apt-get -f install

after dpkg -i webmin*

as it needs some extra packages.
