Firefox 3.6 Final is available for download. The new version Firefox 3.6 offers a good number of improvements and new features. The Mozilla team claims the release is 20 percent faster than its six month old predecessor and offers advancements in email, photo uploads, video and social networking.

What`s new in Firefox 3.6 ?

- Available in more than 70 languages – get your local version.
- Support for a new type of theme called Personas, which allow users to change Firefox’s appearance with a single click.
- Protection from out-of-date plugins to keep users safer as they browse.
- Open, native video can now be displayed full screen and supports poster frames.
- Improved JavaScript performance, overall browser responsiveness, and startup time.
- The ability for web developers to indicate that scripts should run asynchronously to speed up page load times.
- Continued support for downloadable web fonts using the new WOFF font format.
- Support for new CSS attributes such as gradients, background sizing, and pointer events.
- Support for new DOM and HTML5 specifications including the Drag & Drop API and the File API, which allow for more interactive web pages.
- Changes to how third-party software can integrate with Firefox in order to prevent crashes.
Installation

• Installation on ubuntu 9.10 Karmic koala and Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx :

If you are an ubuntu 9.10 Karmic koala user, you can use Mozilla ppa daily , open terminal and add repository using the command :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa

Then update and install Firefox3.6

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox-3.6

 If you want to upgrade just type :

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

• To Install or upgrade to Firefox3.6 on Opensuse 11.2 :

Add the Mozilla Repository for Firefox 3.6:

First become root and type the command :

zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.2/ openSUSE 11.2 Mozilla

You can optionally set the repository to refresh automatically

zypper mr -r openSUSE 11.2 Mozilla’

To install Firefox 3.6 :

zypper in firefox

If you want to upgrade to Firefox 3.6, type the command

zypper dup -r openSUSE 11.2 Mozilla
