The Linpus linux is based to Fedora projetcs . installing direct from the os with yum install vlc or yum install mplayer should not be completed because there is some missing dependencies .
please follow this way to update and install new media player and other packages :
go to http://rpmfusion.org/RPM%20Fusion
download rpmfusion of fedora 8 or 9 for your processor i386 or amd X86_64
sudo yum install fedora-release
sudo rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/updates/9/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-9-12.noarch.rpm
http:// download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
then
sudo yum update
sudo yum install vlc mozilla-vlc mplayer
2- Another methode to install vlc in linpus :We have just to add the repositories and install it via yum.
First you have to add some repositories to your installartion :
sudo rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
sudo rpm -Uvh http://rpms.kwizart.net/kwizart-release-8.rpm
sudo yum install --enablerepo=kwizart-testing vlc vlc-core mozilla-vlc
If you want to make a shotcut on the desktop of your computer :
sudo sed s/%U// -i /usr/share/applications/livna-vlc.desktop
dca add 12 "file='/usr/share/applications/livna-vlc.desktop'"
If you want to add themes for your VLC player you can download alll thems here
Please let me know if it works for you . and post any other issues in the forum
Your feed will be appreciated

you will have just copy the command and pass them on your terminal.please feel free to ask

2009-05-12 05:11:37 | TS - another noob question

If I want to add the VLC Player, and use the howto above (and sorry for this very newbie question):
it says there:
$su -
and then
# rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/ updates/9/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-9- 12.noarch.rpmwhen I add that, is it [enter] between everything (in terminal), or what?
ie.
$su - [enter]
# rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/ updates/9/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-9- 12.noarch.rpm [enter]
#yum update [enter]
#yum install vlc mozilla-vlc mplayer [enter]Or how should I proceed with that?
I really have NEVER used (linpus) linux before, so I apologized for the stupid question(s). I will learn, in time, but I really need to ask stupid things in the beginning. any reply would be appreciated.

I advise you to use the second methode :

sudo yum install --enablerepo=kwizart-testing vlc vlc-core mozilla-vlc
If you want to make a shotcut on the desktop of your computer :
sudo sed s/%U// -i /......................
Remember ,just copy /pst to your terminal and vlc will be installed.
if you need any help don`t hesitate to ask. Never we can learn without asking

There appears to be two links there: one free-release-stable and nonfree-release-stable.
do they both need to be included, ie. the whole sudo command "as it is" ->
sudo rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/ rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/ rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm

I did as you told, but after the "sudo yum install etc." it ended with
"Error: Missing Dependency: libpulse.so.0(PULSE_0) is needed by package vlc
Error: Missing Dependency: libdc1394.so.22 is needed by package ffmpeg-libs
Error: Missing Dependency: libdvdnav.so.4 is needed by package vlc-core"
What do I do now?
-
2009-05-12 23:24:01 | Admin

to resolve the missing dependency
download and install these packages libdc1394-2.0.2-1.fc7.i386.rpm
pulseaudiolibs-devel0.9.8-5.fc8.i386.rpm
libdvdnav-4.1.1-3.fc7.i386.rpm
then run
yum install vlc mozilla-vlc mplayerit should work

Hi.
i tried using the second method and wafter typing in the first part I got
error: Failed dependencies:
system-release >= 10 is needed by rpmfusion-free-release-10-5.noarch
system-release >= 10 is needed by rpmfusion-nonfree-release-10-5.noarchI also checked http://rpmfusion.org/RPM%20Fusion
but that showed the releases for fedora 8 were empty...
Have I missed something? (I'm new as well)Thanks

2009-06-21 00:02:50 | Kym - Please Help

Ive checked lots of forums/websites for help...but i cant get vlc to download.
I followed you 2nd method. After trying to add the repositories it said
"error: Failed dependencies:
system-release >= 10 is needed by rpmfusion-free-release-10-5.noarch
system-release >= 10 is needed by rpmfusion-nonfree-release-10-5.noarch"Then i tried a sudo yum update to fix this...but i dont think it worked (Error: Missing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.19 is needed by package yelp
Error: notification-daemon-xfce conflicts with notify-daemon
)
so i decided to just carry on...followed the rest of your instructions but after sudo yum install. It finished with"Error: Missing Dependency: libdca.so.0 is needed by package vlc-core
Error: Missing Dependency: libavutil.so.49 is needed by package vlc-core
Error: Missing Dependency: libavformat.so.52 is needed by package vlc-core

Kym.

rpm -qa | grep rpmfusion
-
2009-06-22 07:01:31 | Kym

do i type that command exactly the same? coz this is what happened:[root@localhost user]# rpm -qa | grep rpmfusion
[root@localhost user]#

-
2009-06-22 08:01:56 |SAdministrator| zinovsky

Yes type it this way in aspireone :
sudo rpm -qa | grep rpmfusion
-
2009-06-23 20:58:12 | Kym

I typed it in the way u said. but it just returns to the original thingy.
[root@localhost user]# sudo rpm -qa | grep rpmfusion
[root@localhost user]#...is that a bad thing?
-
2009-06-23 21:40:43 | kym

i dunno if this is correct but i took out that straight slash (basically becoz my keyboard cant type that character...i always copied and pasted it before).
Anyways i got this:
[user@localhost ~]$ sudo rpm -qa grep rpmfusion
grep-2.5.1-57.fc7
-

Hi,
I must say I tried probably all posts on how to install VLC on my new aa1 with linpus lite, but still can't get around it.
Yours seems to be closer to getting it done than anyone.
However, I get this message of error after starting the first part of the second method:

error: Failed dependencies:

system-release >= 10 is needed by rpmfusion-nonfree-release-10-5.noarchIt looks like the repositorites are not available anymore for Fedora 7, or at least not at that address. I would like to avoid, if possible, to tear down the linpus acer interface to upgrade to fedora 10, just for running vlc.
Could you help me?
Thanks

Monthes ago repositories with the new key have gone live. That leads to quite a few unresolved dependency problems if you're still using the default repositories on Acer Aspire One Linux, which are not updated anymore. To switch to the new repositories just use the command below which will enable updates-newkey and automatically get all new packages from there. before to start the installation, type :
sudo yum install fedora-release
