Howto: Install Firefox3 on aspireone Linpus

This Tutorial shows you how To install Firefox3 ,please folow the instructions below :

1-Get firefox3, todo this , open your terminal ALT+F2 and type :

Quote:

sudo wget http://rpm.unixmen.com/fedora/remi-release-8.rpm

then type

Quote:

sudo rpm -Uvh remi-release-8.rpm

2- now type :

Quote:

sudo mousepad /etc/yum.repos.d/remi.repo

make sure that [remi] section has its enabled value set to 1 and [remi-test] has its enabled value set to 0.

3- Now we have to delete the old version of firefox but without deleting the dependencies , to do that type the command :

Quote:

sudo rpm -e –nodeps firefox

4- Now install firefox3 :

Quote:

sudo yum install firefox.

AND IS DONE !

I’d be happy to try out the command, thanks for helping, but I’ve got another problem in the meantime.

First, I did get access to my browser again, by copying the setup-files from an SD-card to the netbook. However, I had to go to the “firefox.shellscript” file to activate the browser, because the icon on the desktop had vanished.

Now, if I turn on my acer aspire one, I get to see nothing but a black screen with the arrow of the computermouse. That’s all, and it won’t go any further than that.

I’ve tried F2 while starting up, and then I had to type in “current password”, but I don’t have any!
Then, it said “System will halt”.

I thought it must have been some kind of virus, that must have come through with my SD-card, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t.

I bought this netbook to learn Linux, and so far, I’m only disappointed :confused:. And all of this, only to try to get a higher version of Firefox. I’ve really become suspicious and extremely carefull now. I don’t think that (if the netbook gets fixed and/or will ever start up again) I’d want to try install firefox again :confused:.

This problem is mostly happening when the battery hit about 30-40%

:shock:
I right clicked to turn off the images because they are placed over top of the text so I could read the instructions.
Found that I had to go into preferences and click on exceptions to remove google double click so it allows the images to be displayed.
Why does it place the images over the text?

Hi!

Your instructions were perfect, and I even got the 3.5 version of Firefox. But then they released a fast safety bugfix 3.5.1. How do I upgrade to that, I imagine I should skip the first steps above, but I don’t want to spoil anything. There is no choice to upgrade the version of Firefox from within itself.

I solved my own problem (above) by opening Terminal and typing:
“sudo yum update firefox”

This gave me the update to Firefox 3.5.1.1 (and a warning it’s not supported by Fedora, but it works)javascript:JOSC_emoticon(“:twisted:”)

I’ve been trying for a long time to upgrade firefox on my acer aspire one, and these are the first set of clear instructions I’ve found.
However, I have a question: in step 2 where you say I need to ensure [remi] section has its enabled value set to 1 and [remi-test] has its enabled value set to 0 T
well on mine they are not (remi has enabled value set to 0 and remi-test has enabled value of 0).

How do I change this to move beyond this step and finally get firefox3?

On mine i dont have anithing at the same step. Who can advise what to do? I deleted firefox 2 but cant install firefox 3. IT is dowmloaded but I cant install it.
