How to Upgrade to the Latest Slackware release

Written by Mel Kham on . Posted in Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How  to  upgrade to  The  latest  Salckware  release?

Answer:

First as root, open /etc/slackpkg/mirrors. Uncomment one mirror if you haven’t already. Change the directory it is supposed to look in from slackware-13.0 or slackware-13.x to  slackware  current

Save it. At the command line type under  root  acces:

 slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade all

If you have some extra packages installed (who doesn’t?) there are instructions on the man slackpkg page. You should use that anyhow. Slackpkg clean will remove extra packages.
