How to install Skype in Fedora14 64bit | FAQs

Q: How to install  Skype in Fedora14  64bit?

A: As you know, there is  no  Skype 64bit  available, in this post we will use i686  packages to install skype in 64bit.

Our current system is :

[pirat9@fedora-home ~]$ uname -a
Linux fedora-home #1 SMP Fri Oct 22 15:36:08 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

To be able to install Skype 32 bit in a 64 bit system we need to install some dependencies using yum:

yum  install libXv.i686 libXScrnSaver.i686 qt.i686 qt-x11.i686 pulseaudio-libs.i686 pulseaudio-libs-glib2.i686 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686  -y

Now  download  Skype  from official website and install the rpm package

rpm -ivh skype-

Is done.

With your HOWTO I successfully installed Skype on my Fedora Core 14 x64 desktop. Package dependency list was quite long but at least it works.

    Thank you!

Doesn’t always work. For instance, I upgraded to kde-4.6 from kde-redhat repository. Qt gets updated too. Skype need 32bit qt, which depends on qt-sqlite 32bit. There is a version mismatch on this little thing and yum gives up.

Now, I know what you are thinkin.. "What’s a kde freak doing with fedora?" – Well.. Even I’m trying to figure that out! :)
