Boxee media center in Ubuntu 9.10

Boxee is a cross-platform freeware media center software with a 10-foot user interface and social networking features designed for the living-room TV. Boxee is a fork of the free and open source XBMC media center software which Boxee uses as an application framework for its GUI and media player core platform, together with some custom and proprietary additions. Marketed as the first ever “Social Media Center“, Boxee enables its users to view, rate and recommend content to their friends through many interactive social network services and related features


Download and install the following deb packages

  • Simply double click on these deb files to install it.
Now, Add Jaunty Repo
  • Now you need to add Jaunty Repo for Boxee.

open the  source.list  

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

add this  line

deb http://apt.boxee.tv jaunty main
  • Save and close the text editor
Installing Boxee
  • Now  update  and  install
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install boxee

 

 

Now enjoying   your  media  center

Just delete the space after the slash (/) it will work.

I tried it and it works with a regular zip file, but if you password-protect the .zip file it does NOT work.
