The issue of Oracle challenging Google on the use of Java APIs may, on the surface, appear to be a case of IT corporate establishing themselves on a common turf. However, the implications of these digital corporate wars are serious. The ongoing battle is for Oracle to gain complete control on Java programming language and for Google to establish that the components of the Java language it has used were already in the open source domain.

Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) To Keep Date on 26 April, 2012
Six month’s after Ubuntu’s previous release, Oneric Ocelot (Ubuntu11.10) Ubuntu’s next release, is the Ubuntu 12.04 called Precise Pangolin. Unlike recent releases this will be a Long Time Support (LTS) version, which means that it will continue to be supported beyond the usual 3 years for regular desktop LTS releases and will be supported for 5 years until 2017, for both desktop as well as server versions.

The latest report by The Linux Foundation, for the year 2012, holds lots of surprises. The top surprise is of course, is that of the most unlikely contributor to Linux kernel development- Microsoft Corp. – at No.17, in a Top 20 list! The financial figures reveal that up to one-percent of the development of Linux 2.6.36 to the latest version Linux 3.2 is funded by Microsoft. And this is after Steve Ballmer called Linux platform as a cancer.
